The Taliban’s government is a dictatorial oligarchy. It is run very secretly by a group of men from Kandahar. There are no elections to decide who rules. The Taliban tries to base its government off of other governments from the time of the Muslim prophet Muhammad 1400 years ago.

The Taliban take the city of Bamian in 1998 . In 1994, the Taliban captured Kandahar City as well as several other provinces. The Taliban captured Kabul in 1996, ending their campaign to take over Afghanistan. Taliban leaders were removed from power in 2001 by NATO powers. After the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US, the Taliban refuses to hand Osama Bin Laden over to the US.

The economy of Afghanistan under the Taliban was in a terrible state. The Taliban really just told farmers to grow more opium than they already were.

Because the Taliban does not currently control any countries, they do not have trading partners.

Because the Taliban doesn’t control any countries right now, I couldn’t find anything about debt.

It is estimated that the Taliban holds a fighting force of between 7,000 to 11,000 men.

The Taliban do not control any nuclear weapons yet. However, many believe that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons stock is at risk of being stolen by the Taliban.

Anti-modernism, prohibition of cultural expression, strict enforcement and interpretation of sharia, simple lifestyle, prohibition of all drugs.

The Taliban government completely controls media and culture. The Taliban does not allow for any sort of cultural expression, such as movies or theatrical performances. TV networks were completely shut down in 1996 and print media was forbidden from publishing any commentary or pictures.

The most important resources in Afghanistan under the Taliban were natural gas, petroleum, chromite, coal, copper, sulfur, semi-precious stones, iron, salt, zinc, and barites.

The most important resource lacking in Afghanistan now and under Taliban rule is water. There is a water crisis that is an enormous problem there.

The main and only religion of the Taliban is Islam. 100% of Taliban members are Muslim.

The Taliban believes in ruling the country based entirely on a radical interpretation of Islam. Church and state are one in the same.
