Assignment #4

1. What countries do you share you religion or religions with? List them.

The religion of Islam is shared with Pakistan, the UK, Russia, USA, France, Iran, and Israel.

2. Does your country object to any, all, or some religions of another country? Briefly explain.
The Taliban objects to any religion that is not Islam. They want to convert all people to Islam and have them be subjected to a very strict form of Sharia.

3. Define “Sharia.”

Sharia is the body of Islamic law set forth in the Koran.

4. What role does Sharia play in your country?

Many laws in Pakistan and Afghanistan are Sharia laws. Both countries are largely Muslim and govern their people based on Sharia to a certain extent. The Taliban would like to see a country ruled entirely according to Sharia.

5. What is the role of religion and state in your country?

Pakistan’s government and Islam are very closely tied. The state religion of Pakistan is Islam, and the official name of the country is The Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The same can be said of Afghanistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. In a Taliban-controlled government, there would be absolutely no separation between religion and the state.
